Sleeping lions and leopards. Over the years and during countless safaris I have made hundreds if not thousands of pictures of sleeping big cats in Africa. And just like your pet cat at home, they sleep a lot. So while waiting for nature to move them, you take pictures of sleeping lions and leopards to pass the time.
However, when nature causes them to move, it can be one of the most exhilarating and exciting times to be on safari. My goal is to catch them in their natural habitat doing what all African big cats do. They stalk, catch, kill and eat prey. Then they preen and sleep before they do it all over again. In many respects, regardless of species, they are apex predators and Kings and Queens of their little chunks of the Serengeti, Kruger, and Masai Mara. Here is my vision of them and a bit of their story.
The spell cast by nature is mesmerizing. A gentle melody is sung by graceful creatures. The soft beat of the ripples on the water's surface keep perfect time. Your ears hear the nuance of delicate harmonics played by the wings of the smallest of insects. The contrast in colors blend perfectly into a single vision. Nature's spell is the remedy. The peace you feel is nature's cure.
